Museum of Terror
(Dark Horse, 2006)
™ and © Dark Horse Comics, Inc.
You know what they say—there’s nothing scarier than a supernaturally beautiful woman with hyper-regenerative qualities. Volume One of Dark Horse’s Museum of Terror is a re-printing of Junji Ito’s “Tomie” stories. Tomie is a beautiful, mysterious girl who drives men crazy… to the point of murder. Not that it matters. Tomie always comes back.
Horror stories often contain moralizing messages, espcially regarding sexuality and abnormal behavior. The Museum of Terror stories, however, take morality to a whole different level. Short girls are ugly, short hair is ugly, and if any part of you can be described as “short” you’re likely to end up dead or in a world of hurt. Men will do anything—strip nekkid in the snow, kill the ugly chick, smash their life’s work—for a beautiful woman. And more than anything, no woman is more beautiful than Tomie (even when her head starts sprouting, um, another head).
So slip off those heels and go ahead and cut your hair, ladies. There’s no point in even trying.
