The wait is over. After months of anticipation, Dusty Star has arrived. Has it been worth the many months?
Let the record state that I love the art. Pages are filled with snapshots, angle changes, close-ups, color effects that emphasize the brutality of Dusty Star, and stark black and white pages that pull the reader into the scenery. Consider the Barstow bar and you’ll know what I mean.
Storywise, Andrew Robinson and Joe Pruett have constructed a cross between spaghetti Westerns, gang wars, and a nasty B-Western cowboy that is fascinating. As a first issue, it introduces readers to Dusty and her own brand of revenge that I wouldn’t want to get caught up in.
The confusing part is how the particular mix of settings comes in. While it compels the reader to continue buying the title, it may be too confusing for those with a short attention span.
Don’t let that hinder your enjoyment of this series. It has an unusual appeal that will win over fans. Be one of them.
