The Dirty Duck Book

    (Cocoanut, 1971)
™ and ©1971 Cocoanut Comix

This early 1970s black-and-white, underground title from Cocoanut Comix is comprised of several one-page gags starring the Dirty Duck, an irreverent, anti-establishment water-fowl who bears more than a passing resemblance to legendary comedian Groucho Marx and who is often seen running from an angry cop. While the artwork is a bit sketchy, the message is clear: it’s all about standing up to authority and enjoying personal freedoms. Like most underground comics from the 1960s and 1970s, there’s some language in The Dirty Duck Book that some folks will find objectionable; but unlike other undergrounds, there are few sexual or drug-oriented references. Fun, if a bit, um, foul here and there.
