At the end of Volume 2 of The Ultimates, the group renounced their affiliation with S.H.I.E.L.D. and gave up government support. Now under the management of Tony Stark, The Ultimates are a bit closer to the Avengers in Marvel’s mainstream universe, designated 616. As the new boss of this volatile and unpredictable team Stark wants to know as much as possible about his new employees. To that end he utilized a bit of bribery to crack the personal files of Nick Fury and spends the evening reading the history of The Ultimates. The vast majority of this book consists of text boxes containing Tony Stark’s reflections on what Fury knew and his own reminisces and opinions of that history interspersed with pertinent panels from the first two series.

This one-shot issue serves as a handy recap of The Ultimates history up to the point of the third volume and serves as a good jumping on point for new readers.
