Captain Marvel was, at one time, the best selling comic character in the nation. His adventures outsold both Batman and Superman during the Golden Age. But he was always regarded as a second-rate copy of the Man of Steel (so much so that DC sued Fawcett, Cap’s original publisher).

This series, spinning out of DC’s Brave New World one-shot, plans to change that. A greater emphasis is placed on the magical aspects of the Captain’s origin and history, as the Big Red Cheese takes over the role of the wizard Shazam, who was killed in the Day of Vengeance limited series.
