Neal Adams’ mainstream work not only influenced the entire comic industry, it helped redefine such characters as Batman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, and even the original X-Men. Contributing to literally hundreds of comics, his work can be seen in everything from Deadman to Archie. In addition, his own comic book company, Continuity Comics, has generated such characters as Megalith, CyberRad, and Ms. Mystic.

Though he is perhaps best known for his super-heroes, Adams definitely has a barbaric side, as shown in this black and white collection. Featuring various fantasy-themed sketches, many of which were initial layouts for movie posters, book covers, t-shirts, and even TV commercials, it also includes his first rendering of Continuity’s Shaman, a magic-based character who ironically fought to rid the world of magic.
