Fans began to anticipate major changes to the DC Universe when the full title of this 80-page special was revealed. Leading into the four miniseries Rann-Thanagar War, Villains United, Omac Project, and Day of Vengeance, Countdown sets events into motion that plunge the heroes of the DC Universe into crisis mode. Co-written by Greg Rucka, Geoff Johns, and Judd Winick, this book follows an investigation by Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle, who stumbles across a major threat. Following the events of Identity Crisis, Countdown starts a number of dominoes falling that result in a transformed DC Universe for 2006 and beyond.
