Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service
(Dark Horse)
Prepare for a different type of ghost story. The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service consists of five washouts from a Buddhist university. They have a variety of unique skills, ranging from psychic (divining the location of corpses, talking to the dead) to practical (such as embalming, not widely practiced in Japan). They pool their talents into a business, taking the dead where they wish to go. The catch? The dead are the ones who have to pay for the service.
In their adventures, they have to reunite young lovers, help a grandmother find a legendary burial field, and stop a serial killer. There’s also an enjoyable tale of an actuary. Yes, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service makes insurance fun!
The presence of Kurosagi member Yata is puzzling, since his “skill” involves allegedly channeling aliens through a hand puppet. His inclusion doesn’t hurt the story, but it is odd.
An appendix tells more about Japanese sound effects than most would probably care to know. Those who do care will find themselves in FX heaven.
