Pin-Up: The Illegitimate Art
(Dark Horse, 2004)
™ and © 2004 Jim Silke
Jim Silke has mastered virtually any task he has attempted. Besides being a Grammy Award–winning art director, he has also successfully proven himself as a magazine publisher, screenwriter, glamour photographer, and even comic book writer. More recently in his career, he decided to take on the world of pin–up art.
This self–proclaimed “burlesque revue of glamour art and artists” is both a biographical account of Silke’s career in particular, and a history of the pin–up as an art form in general. It includes numerous color images by Silke, as well as those from artists such as George Petty, Coby Whitmore, Al Parker, and many others. It should be considered a must-have for any pin–up or Silke enthusiast.
