The Nightly News
(Image, 2006-2007)
™ and ©2006 Jonathan Hickman
News coverage makes the world go around, informing us and educating us. But that information has a dark side, especially when the people who control it use it for that exact purpose: control. In New York City, the headquarters of each network’s news division, you can be sure you’ll hear about every major story—even if it later turns out to be incorrect. Maybe that explains why a regular guy suddenly finds himself working as an agent of the mysterious Hand of the Voice, firing on members of the media with a sniper rifle.
Writer/artist Jonathan Hickman’s debut comic is original in style and execution, with different voices and perspectives speaking on each page and the art a hodge-podge of both the characters speaking and the media reporting on them. The famous “Mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore” quote from the film “Network” appears as a tagline and inspiration for this witty tale.
