E-Man: Recharged
(Digital Webbing, 2006)
™ and ©2006 Joe Staton/First Comics, Inc.
A super-hero like E-man, pretty much able to take any form he wants from a microwave oven to the microwave itself, doesn’t face a lot of challenges up to his powers. That goes double when he’s teamed up with his similarly powered girlfriend. Fortunately, the real concern in this book has always been about a fish out of water, and the stripper who loves him. This debut issue swabs the deck of the past and shoves the couple into combat with a new villain that can’t be seen or stopped, except by mirrors. Combined with a weapon capable of hurting them both, he presents a real threat to the reader.
Not a terribly exciting issue for adults (and with a stripper in the book, not an immediate recommendation for kids), it is, nonetheless, a story that delivers on its promises, and does so in the form of idiosyncratically fun Joe Staton art.
