Process Recess

Though this art book resembles an art book that features paintings that could have been painted centuries earlier, it is actually a current selection of paintings and drawings dating from 1999–2004 by Taiwanese artist James Jean. The book is presented in a very smart looking hardback package. Many of Jean’s paintings contain paragraphs of scrawled words written over the artwork and are difficult to read here. Some are basic pen and ink sketches, while others are fully realized full–color paintings. The best way to describe Jean’s work is in the introduction by Paul Pope: Strangeness.
