DC First: Superman/Lobo

™ and ©2002 DC Comics

So you think you already know how Superman and Lobo first met, huh? Granted, there have been a couple different versions over the years, but most of those were written in Lobo’s early days, before he “evolved” into his current mangy persona. That’s why DC finally decided to have Keith Giffen (Lobo co–creator, with Roger Slifer) tell the definitive story of the first meeting between the Man of Steel and the Main Man.

When aliens target Earth’s water as the galaxy’s most addictive drug, the only obstacle to claiming their prize is Superman. They hire inter–stellar bounty hunter Lobo to go one–on–one with the Kryptonian, thus removing the obstacle. This leads, naturally, to a huge, no–holds–barred slugfest. Unfortunately, the winner of such an epic battle is never determined, because Lobo eventually decides he’s been cheated by his employers, thus voiding their contract.
