In 1421, before any of the European explorers, the Emperor Zhu Di of China sent 4 fleets to explore the world. Eight hundred vessels mapped every coastline for two years in missions of discovery and understanding. But upon their return they found their land to be overcome by disease and open revolt. China turned inward. Isolationism became China’s way of life and the most ambitious exploratory challenge in history was forgotten. Almost six hundred years later seven divergent men from across the globe with amazing abilities they deny even to themselves are brought together by a mysterious young woman named Rachel Kai. She sent the men a check for $50,000 with the promise of another $50,000. Her cryptic remarks do not reveal her rationale, but she has abilities that eclipse even theirs. This title is the first of Virgin Comics “Director’s Cut” line of comics. Film director John Woo collaborates with Garth Ennis is this tale of an unlikely group of brothers who must fulfill an ancient prophecy. The comic is in anticipation of a subsequent movie and video game.
