Franklin Richards: Happy Franksgiving
(Marvel, 2007)
Bill Watterson isn’t doing his “Calvin and Hobbes” strip anymore, but these short adventures featuring a young trouble-maker (Reed Richards’ son Franklin) and the serious friend who tries to keep him from making too many mistakes (H.E.R.B.I.E. the Robot) would probably resonate with the cartoonist. Many of Calvin’s escapades were imaginary, of course, while Franklin’s are all dangerously real. When your Dad’s a genius and in his spare time cooks up devices that read minds, pierce dimensional barriers, and turn tiny animals into giant monsters, trouble soon follows.
Humorous short stories featuring Franklin first appeared as backups in other Marvel titles, before proving popular enough to earn a feature role. Chris Eliopoulos and Mark Sumerak collaborate on these fun, out-of-continuity adventures in which the Fantastic Four themselves occasionally appear.
