Though the first Transformers movie did poorly at the box office when it was initially released, the legion of Transformers fans still has a fond spot in their hearts for the film. This devotion prompted Sony Music to release the movie on DVD in a 20th anniversary edition. Following suit, the folks at IDW have created a new comic adaptation of the film and the Transformers movie joins Star Wars as being one of the few movies to be adapted into comics at two different times by two different companies. Unlike the creators of Marvel’s 1986 adaptation, longtime Transformers comic creators Bob Budiansky and Don Figueroa don’t have to make guesses about the finalized movie, creating a comic that looks and feels very close to what fans saw on the big screen.
