It is said that God works in mysterious ways, and what better example of that is there than making a young boy the future savior of all humanity? Unfortunately, the forces of evil are aware of Joe’s importance, and he’s nowhere near ready to defend himself. Enter Max, a powerful angel who God appoints to protect the boy until he reaches maturity. Max had better hurry, though, before Satan or one of his minions puts him out of a job….

While telling a story of angels and demons, the series figures to touch on very human issues of race (Joe is an African-American boy living in a crime- and drug-filled Projects neighborhood, while Max is Latino) and culture. Despite these heavier themes, the book has an upbeat tone to it.
