You’ll Have That

This collection of Web comic strips stars a likable married couple named Andy and Katie. The typical twosome share such mundane misadventures and funny foibles as a boring wedding reception, arguments over taking out the trash, and a visit from Katie’s dad. Despite their differences, Andy and Katie are never hateful or mean-spirited, using gentle admonishments and playful ribbings to get their points across.

Molebash doesn’t always hit the mark (a reference to cherry beer falls flat, for example), but the majority of the strips in this unassuming little volume are funnier than most current newspaper comics, and many of them will resonate with readers who are still working their way through the (usually amiable) obstacle course of that thing called marriage. The book hits its creative pinnacle on page 11, with a three-panel strip about a boring (and depressingly familiar) New Year’s Eve that is brilliant in its honesty, subtlety, and economy of word usage.

Molebash’s angular art style won’t satisfy all tastes, but his cartoonish character designs are cute, clear, and consistent.
