What If? X-Men Deadly Genesis
(Marvel, 2007)
™ and © Marvel Characters, Inc.
Giant-Size X-Men #1 introduced the “all-new, all-different” X-Men, who rescued the original team from Krakoa, the “living island”. Decades later, X-Men: Deadly Genesis revealed those events were only half the story, retroactively introducing yet another secret mutant team, including Vulcan, Cyclops’ long-lost brother.
Unfortunately, most of that team died, and a bitter Vulcan left the X-Men. And the revelation that Professor X removed these memories created a terrible rift in the team.
In this imaginary tale, the original team, except for Cyclops, is killed. Vulcan’s New X-men become accepted worldwide, despite being mutants. And while a grief-stricken Cyclops hides in seclusion, Vulcan is hailed as the greatest hero on the planet. But, like Professor X in the original story, Vulcan harbors a terrible secret—one that threatens not only his sanity, but the lives of every member of the X-Men!
