In 1995, Marvel Comics released its Marvel Select line of comic books. Among the upscale “select” titles were new series featuring such classic characters as Flash Gordon, Prince Valiant, and Lee Falk’s Mandrake the Magician.

Mandrake’s comeback sets the magician in the present. A female archeologist named Doctor D’Fiore finds one of the last of thirteen magic scrolls, said to give the owner super-natural powers. D’Fiore teams up with the mysterious Mandrake in an effort to recover the twelfth scroll after it is stolen from a New York exposition. The two follow the trail until they find the thief, the twisted, evil, Black Wizard. Unless Mandrake can use his own skills to stop him, the Black Wizard intends to use this scroll to unlock the doors to ultimate power.

This three-issue series features fully painted artwork by Rob Ortaleza.
