The Brave and the Bold Team-Up Archives

This is a great collection of mediocre stories.

Between its incarnation as a showcase title and its long run as a Batman vehicle, The Brave and the Bold had assorted team–ups, reprinted in this volume. Most of the stories are merely adequate; there’s only one true classic in the bunch. But they are seldom seen and pure Silver. First is a Green Arrow/Martian Manhunter team–up. The logic is: Green Arrow is a second–rate Batman and The Manhunter is a second–rate Superman; together, they must be the next World’s Finest Team. Not even close. The next team–up is the more logical Aquaman/Hawkman, followed by “3 Battle Stars.” The team–up of Sgt. Rock, Lt. Johnny Cloud, and The Haunted Tank is one of the best in the collection, even if the reader is not a fan of the war comics. (It also features a fourth—surprise—battle star.) Other tales feature Flash, Atom, and the Metal Men. Batman’s first B&B team–up (with Green Lantern) is also here. The one true classic? Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash—later known as the Teen Titans.
