This mini-comic reprints the first three issues of the original Avengers series created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Taking four characters that had been introduced already, the two creators set up Marvel’s all-star team of super-heroes, a counterpart to DC’s Justice League of America. Having already found success with one team that didn’t always get along, Lee upped the ante with Marvel’s second team book after the Fantastic Four. In these first three issues, the heroes don’t just bicker; they come to physical blows almost every time they meet. However, the Avengers legacy might be best remembered for the team’s constant turmoil, which was established early with the defection of a team member in only the second issue.
