Neil Gaiman, best known for his work on Sandman, is also one of the most eloquent proponents of comics. This special encompasses three essays. “Good Comics and Why You Should Sell Them” was originally given to the Diamond Comic Distributors 10th Annual Retailers’ Seminar, at the height of a speculative comics boom. The speech warned retailers (unfortunately to no avail) to avoid the same practices which led to downfall centuries earlier in the Dutch Tulip Craze. This memorable essay should be required reading to all involved in comics retailing and publishing.

The other essays are “On Signings,” where Gaiman talks about the best ways to hold a creator signing in your shop; and “Writing (the PRO/con speech)” in which he gives tips to the up-and-coming on writing for various mediums—in particular, comics.
