Island of the Tiki Goddess

Although the title of this series seems to indicate otherwise, Mike Hoffman’s Island of the Tiki Goddess does not focus on a specific island (or a specific goddess), but rather on painting an exotic picture of the south Pacific seas in general. The contents of each issue, both words and pictures, are produced completely by Mr. Hoffman, although literary and historical texts provide an important background. The first issue, for instance, contains an adaptation of the H.G. Wells story “Jimmy Goggles, The God,” as well as several single splash-page backups about actual customs of south Pacific islanders.

In both dialog and art the book does a good job of capturing a tone for the south seas that, even if not historically accurate, works well for a fantasy series.
