1993 saw the launch of several different comic Universes, including Dark Horse’s Comics’ Greatest World, Defiant’s new line of super-heroes, and Malibu’s Ultraverse. The latter was among the most successful of the new comic worlds, owing its success to its strong storytelling, first class artwork, and interesting characters.

At the beginning of 1994, Malibu gave new readers a chance to easily get in on their world. This 99¢ one-shot retold the origins of all the major Ultraverse characters. Included are the origin stories of Prototype, The Night Man, The Solution, Warstrike, Hardcase, Rune, Wrath, Sludge, Solitaire, The Strangers, Firearm, Mantra, and Freex. For good measure, this special also throws in a checklist of the Ultraverse titles, listing first appearances and other special issues that had happened to that point in time.
