It Rhymes With Lust (Dark Horse)
(Dark Horse, 2007)
™ and © Dark Horse Comics, Inc.
Well, here it is, the first graphic novel. Reprinted by Dark Horse, originally published by St. John Publications in 1950, it’s a real product of its times, when gold-hearted young protagonists from simple upbringings often found themselves losing their moral path. Torn between a sociopathic temptress (the semi-eponymous Rust Masson) and her pure-hearted step-daughter, a crusading editor of a small-town paper must choose the path his life will take: boozey glitz with a cold-hearted queen, or the simple life just outside of town with a loving wife. Potboiler though this is, it's not bad. It’s convincing temptation on both sides, and even when the choice seems easy, it at least sells the inner conflict. Well worth reprinting for both its historical and story values.
— Brendan McGinley
