Cheated!
(Wake Up And Save Your Country, 2006)
™ and © Wake Up And Save Your Country
As a comic book, Cheated! is marvelous propaganda. The story recounts the controversy following alleged abuses in the Ohio voting system during the 2004 election. It’s about as unbiased as a Michael Moore documentary, and the message is simple: Republicans are evil.
This criticism has nothing to do with politics. The volume is just not entertaining, so one-sided as to be uninteresting. If one is really into this issue, this may be a wonderful resource to educate people, but it’s essentially an editorial in graphic form. Issues such as this can be discussed in a more entertaining fashion. Birth of a Nation, for example, addresses nearly identical themes and, even if the reader disagrees with the authors’ politics, the volume can be enjoyed and discussed. Cheated! lacks subtlety as well as shading.
The art is unpolished, but characters are consistent and public figures are easily recognizable, which is not always the case in such efforts. The extensive endnotes are useful for those who wish to learn more about this subject.
–Jack Abramowitz
