Spider-Man: Worst Enemies

DK and Marvel have combined forces to create a reading program designed to readers of all age groups. For those “learning to read” to “proficient readers,” gradual vocabulary and comprehension skills can be developed with Spider-Man and The X-Men.

“Spider-Man: Worst Enemies” tells the story of Spidey’s greatest foes. The Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Doc Ock, The Scorpion, Venom, The Vulture, The Lizard, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, Hydro-Man, and The Chameleon oppose our favorite Web-Slinger at every turn. Young readers can learn the villain’s basic powers and origins with age-appropriate language and illustrations from Ditko to Romita and beyond.

Do these hold the interest of young readers? My 9-year-old read all three books in one sitting; my 14-year-old, the same. Twice! Yep, that Web-Slinger holds sway where Huck Finn may not.

The full line of books includes Meet The X-Men and Spider-Man’s Amazing Story. Each book has the same quality paper, story, and binding for passing down the literary food chain. Future comic-book readers gotta come from somewhere!
