Legion of Monsters: Man-Thing
(Marvel, 2007)
Legion of Monsters: Man-Thing is the second in a series of one-shots that revisit Marvel’s monster characters from the Bronze Age. The comic is divided into two halves. The first half, written by crime novelist Charlie Huston (Moon Knight) and illustrated by Klaus Janson (Frank Miller’s inker on Daredevil and The Dark Knight Returns) finds Man-Thing trapped in a precarious position—and his enemies are dining on his regenerative body every night. The second half features Simon Garth, Zombie (from the Marvel series Tales of the Zombie), on a quest to find love. Both stories include elements of humor and terror (though Man-Thing focuses more on the latter, and Zombie on the former), and are sure to appeal to fans of Marvel’s 1970s monster books which, in their time, had quite the audience.
