Ozzie & Babs

    (Fawcett, 1947-1949)
™ and ©1947 Fawcett Publications, Inc.

Ozzie and Babs is a better-than-average teen humor offering from top-shelf 1940s publisher Fawcett. Ozzie Turner is a typical goofy high-school kid obsessed with his blond-bombshell girlfriend Babs. Of course, the way Babs is drawn, it would be hard for any red-blooded teenager not to be obsessed. In the art style of the book, everyone is doodled in a lighthearted, Archie-ish style except the women, who are rendered with emphasis on more naturalistic details. Seems like a recipe for success in the competitive world of high-school hi-jinx comics, but Fawcett was unwinding from the comics business in the late 40s and didn’t stick around to see if the formula would catch on. Ozzie and Babs lasted only 14 issues before becoming TV Teens and falling into the clutches of Charlton Comics for a short-lived stint in the 1950s.
