Unseen Peanuts

May 5th, 2007 heralded the sixth Free Comic Book Day! Publishers provided comic book stores with free books to lure customers in and hopefully get the reading public interested in their particular books.

By 2007, 384 reprint books of Charles Schulz’ immortal Peanuts had been published. Strangely enough, it was not until the Complete Peanuts collection was begun that every single one of the strips had been published. Many were never reprinted until then. What Kim Thompson has done in Unseen Peanuts is take some of the rare, previously unprinted works, and put over 150 “lost” strips together along with some possible explanation as to why they were never reprinted. Reasons vary, but this is an excellent work from Fantagraphics showing that research can be enlightening and interesting to fans of all ages.
