Bring it On!

    (Ice Kunion, 2005)
™ and ©2005 HyeKyung Baek

Being forced into becoming her older brother’s workout buddy turns cute Miha into a bit of a tomboy, so, when she catches an unconscious “pervert” in the girls’ shower, she slugs him. But he turns out to be Sung, a transfer student with a dark past who’s as pretty as several girls.

They fuss and feud, but sparks refuse to fly between these tired character types, and the plots become increasingly desperate to keep them in conflict. As in a particularly strange sequence in which Miha bumps into a gangster and is saved from a savage beating because she’s a cute girl—that is, until Sung convinces him she’s a he. From the way the art keeps yo-yoing back and forth between its normal style and super deformity, clearly we’re supposed to find this funny.

As with the other Ice Kunion titles, Bring It On comes in a larger format and contains interview with the creator, character bios, and a preview chapter of Angel Diary; it’s a pity the packaging is better than the contents.
