War Man

    (Epic, 1993)
™ and ©1993 Chuck Dixon & Juan Zanotto

Epic’s Heavy Hitters line was a group of action-oriented titles that featured well-known creators like Peter David (Sachs & Violens), Howard Chaykin (Midnight Men), and Chuck Dixon. Dixon’s contribution is a hard-hitting story of guns and drugs set in the heart of the jungle.

Griffin, the title character, is a former altar boy who has since worked his way into a career in gunrunning. He’ll supply anyone who pays and asks no questions. The only line he draws is his refusal to engage directly in the drug trade. This refusal buys him precious little protection from the effects of South America’s most profitable export. He had the bad luck to board a commercial plane bound for Sao Paulo which was transporting a government minister on an antidrug mission. The plane was bombed by agents of a local drug kingpin and crashed into the jungle. Only eight people survived, and Griffin is drafted to lead them to safety before the druglord’s men arrive to finish the job.
