A first glance at the cover may lead the potential buyer to say, “Oh, another one of these.” However, those who read these first two issues will find that Joey Andrade’s writing is good. (It’s always a good idea to avoid judging a book by its cover, if you have the resources to do so.) This story, revolving around the notion of direct descendants of Jesus, won’t win awards, but it is entertaining and contains enough surprises that it’s worth checking out.

The art does not impress much. It’s decent but not as strong as the story it’s telling. There is creativity in what Cristian Alaminos shows, and it doesn’t detract from the story. Nevertheless, it doesn’t support the script as well as might be hoped.

Familiar plot elements include: secret societies, a super-cool and even tougher protagonist, a requisite hot chick, and a mysterious background. Andrade manages to weave them together proficiently to the extent that the pages turn easily. Readers looking for an enjoyable small-press book should take a look at this.
