Just in case Cal McDonald alone isn’t enough Steve Niles riffing on John Constantine for your tastes, Dan Wickline scripts an outright clone of the Vertigo character hobnobs with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Kolchak the Nightstalker, Fox Mulder, and Evil Dead’s Ash. Which would be great if they had the personalities that made them memorable monster hunters, or there were some higher concept or critique at play, but really, it’s a bunch of non-personas after some good banter on the first few pages. David Hartman’s art is fun and animated in a vaguely Kyle Baker-ish way, livening up an encounter with a shape-shifting demon. It’s entirely passable book, but it could have been a bit more than it is.
