Doctor Clark Savage Jr. is one of the most famous characters from 1930s pulp fiction. Raised by his father to be the perfect man, Savage has talents ranging from performing microsurgery to stopping terrorists. He is aided in his adventures by a cast of colorful operatives who are themselves masters of various disciplines.

In the 1988 Doc Savage Mini-Series, DC sent Savage on a cross-time chase after Nazi scientist Heinz Wessel. Emerging in the present day, he finds that although he has maintained his youth, his operatives are now old men. Moreover, Savage discovers he is now a grandfather, with Clark Savage IV showing every sign of following in his illustrious footsteps.
