Spider-Man Family Featuring Spider-Man’s Amazing Friends
(Marvel, 2006)
™ and ©2006 Marvel Characters, Inc.
When Firestar invites herself into Spider-Man and Iceman’s exclusive crime-fighting clique, Iceman is a bit annoyed. Firestar reacts with a mutual disdain and Spider-Man is caught in the middle. Then, he realizes that Firestar and Iceman must really like each other and sets out to play matchmaker against the advice of his wife, Mary Jane. If the plot to “Opposites Attract” sounds a little juvenile, well, that’s the intended audience for the title. Bolstering that notion is the inclusion of two light-hearted humor pieces, a reprint of a Fred Hembeck story that originally appeared in Untold Tales of Spider-Man and a Mini-Marvels tale of Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar when they were children. The order of the day is charming and precious adventure, so continuity be damned. The other two reprints in this title are anomalous to the tone of this book. One is a somber and serious story reprinted from Untold Tales of Spider-Man and the other is the origin of Spider-Man of 2099. This story’s inclusion may illustrate Spider-Man’s enduring appeal but is likely to confuse a new reader
