Batman: Crimson Mist
(DC, 1999)
™ and ©1999 DC Comics
The third of a series of Elseworlds tales starring Batman, which began with Red Rain, this mini-series tells the story of a Gotham City plagued by vampires. In the Red Rain hardcover, Batman faced Dracula and his legions in an epic battle that ended with the Caped Crusader sacrificing his humanity in order to save his city. In Crimson Mist, the Dark Knight is put to death by his loyal servant, Alfred and his best friend, Commissioner James Gordon at his own request. Frozen and trapped by a stake, the vampyric Batman longs to be released from this false death in order to gorge on the blood of the not-so-innocent. When Gotham becomes plagued with homicidal rogues like Killer Croc and Two-Face, Alfred and Gordon release the Batman from his bondage. Eerily illustrated by Kelley Jones, this series is a unique look at some of Gotham’s most infamous characters.
