Subra Ptareo is a stranger in a strange land, trying to purify himself before he’s overtaken with poison, which has little to do with what actually happens next. Writer/artist C.F. rips fantasy out of the epic and into a slice-of-life tale about friends conversing. Tightly drawn, yet developed only to the point of first-draft pencil sketches, it frequently bends toward surrealism, and yet… it all kind of makes sense. The scenarios don’t have to be explained to understand the characters’ reactions to them. One can apprehend what’s going on easily enough. It’s funny, it’s a little scary, and it will probably grow on you.
