Absent Friends
(Slave Labor, 2004)
™ and ©2004 Phil Elliott and Paul Grist
In an interview on the Pulse website, writer Phil Elliott describes Absent Friends as “all the stories that Paul [Grist] and I did in the late Eighties. They're short tales of love, deceit and paranoia ... the usual sort of stuff!” These stories originally appeared in magazines such as Escape and Taboo, and while the art style may be somewhat different from what Grist’s fans are accustomed to seeing in books like Jack Staff and Kane, there’s no denying the simple beauty of it. While Elliott insists that the stories are not strictly autobiographical, they are intensely personal and draw from his experiences.
