El Cazador debuted as a rare entry in a genre that hadn’t really been touched since the 50s: the pirate comic. Although Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal 1986 Watchmen featured memorable pirate tale called “Tales of the Black Freighter,” the genre remained relatively dormant until 2003 when El Cazador was released. The series is set in 1687, and Blackjack Tom, captain of the pirate ship the Devil’s Due, roams the waters with his vicious crew. Unfortunately for them they create a formidable enemy when they kill a man named Hidalgo, who has a widow with a score to settle.
