The Beano

    (D.C. Thomson, 1938-Present)
โ„ข and ยฉ1996 D.C. Thomson & Co., Ltd.

This weekly British humor book for children has the distinction of having the most consecutive issues of any comic series in the worldโ€”save perhaps for its sister publication, Dandy. Begun on July 30th, 1938, it had clocked in at 2800 issues as of March 16th, 1996โ€”and itโ€™s still going strong today.

The series was named The Beano Comic from 1938-1951, and changed to The Beano with issue #413 in 1950.

The Beano has featured a menagerie of humor strips, from Lord Snooty in issue #1 to Biffo the Bear, Tom Thumb, and Roger the Dodger. Starting in 1951, it began the adventures of the original Dennis the Menace, a popular strip which continues today, and who is much nastier than his American namesake. Other current features include bratty kid Ivy the Terrible, The Numskulls, and the ever-popular Bash Street Kids.
