Comic Book Heaven

    (Slave Labor, 1999)
™ and © 1999 by Scott Saavedra

This excellent little magazine from Scott Saavedra and Slave Labor Graphics focuses on some of the oddities of this wacky comic book hobby that we love so much. For example, issue #2 has a lengthy article entitled “Me Am Weird: The Strangest Comic Book Stories Ever,” and Saavedra exposes some truly silly moments. There’s Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) #12 (the FF wreak havoc on a military base in search of the Hulk) and Green Lantern (1st Series) #3 (the Emerald Gladiator has girl troubles). Also, there’s Showcase #11 (the Challengers of the Unknown fight evil creatures with two brains), and Detective Comics #352 (featuring “Batman’s Crime Hunt A-Go-Go”—the title says it all, really), among many others. Another feature looks at what happens when comic book butlers go bad. This magazine should be on every comic book reader’s must-buy list!
