™ and ©1984 DC Comics, Inc.

Manhunter was an obscure hero of the Golden Age. Disillusioned after the war, he was almost glad when a stampeding elephant trampled him to death while on safari.

But he didn’t stay dead. A group of ten brilliant scientists called the Council stored his body in suspended animation and eventually succeeded in bringing him back from the dead. The Council, which claimed to be out to save mankind from itself, had brought Manhunter back to head their “enforcement division.” But when Manhunter discovers that this “enforcement” involves killing people to further the Council’s evil ends, he turns against them.

This special gathers the Manhunter stories as they appeared in Detective Comics #447–443. An artistic triumph, these stories garnered six critical awards in its brief seven-issue run.
