In the late eighties, First Comics released a series of deluxe-format mini-series which they called First Fiction. The second of these series was Roger Salick and Val MayeriK’s Sensei, a four-part story that mixed science-fiction and samurai culture.

Tadashi Natori is one of the people who feel that they were born in the wrong time. Natori was born in the late twentieth century, but trained in the ancient art of samurai warfare. For his entire life, he yearned to live in ancient Japan where he thought he would feel more comfortable. Tadashi got his chance when his twin brother, Ken, invented a time machine. Tadashi was sent back in time to the California of the Old West. But while there, he was forced into a deadly confrontation with a crew of murderers. That, coupled with a lab accident back in the future, changed history and threw Natori into a barbaric New California of 2129.
