The Stacks

The Stacks is….well, The Stacks. There’s nothing really comparable to this book Every page is different from the last, as though writer/artist Marc Bell can’t stay in one layout, style or medium too long (some pages are painted, some are inked, some are photographs of sculpture. It’s a creative maelstrom, form largely without function, though even then, Bell eventually transmutes his output into a brief story about the impending apocalypse known as Gravy World. Six panels, each funnier than the last, hold intriguing hope for more along those lines, but one suspects that standard fare bores Bell. Hard to read, but neat to read through, The Stacks stands alone.
