Master of Mystics: The Demoncraft
(Chakra, 1991)
™ and ©1991 Cultural Institute for the Vedic Arts
A sincere attempt to adapt ancient Indian holy texts as translated by Srila Prabhupada. They concern Krishna, the Supreme Being, and his antics while living on Earth in human guise. If this is to be seen as religious dogma, then seeming inconsistencies must be accepted through faith, but it makes for poor stories. One minute Krishna is as fallible and puzzled as the next human, but is then able to pull the proverbial rabbit from the hat. That he exists in all places at all times further complicates matters. Even readers steeped in super-hero comics might find him a little farfetched. Furthermore, read without faith, the stories have the opposite effect from what’s intended. Krishna is portrayed as a capricious despot for whom humanity is but a toy, while the assorted humans seeking revenge have just cause for doing so. One for the converted only.
