In Art Thiebert’s comic fantasia, time is the product of a vast and elaborate machine that periodically breaks down and requires repair lest timelines begin to merge and collapse into chaos. Enter the madcap Chrono Mechanics whose job it is to fix and maintain that machine in order to ensure the proper flow of time. Chrono, Inc. recruits mechanics from various places in time and space for their natural skills and talents. In this debut volume, we meet a caveman named Oot, Caravaggio from the Italian Renaissance (he speaka witha Italian accenta), a space alien named Zyn, and the star of the show Doug, or simply D, a mulleted rock star from the 1970s.

Thiebert’s black and white illustration is free and loose with rich detail work fans will enjoy poring over repeatedly. One gets the sense Thiebert absolutely, positively loves to draw.
