Usually comic adaptations of video games are a cause for some trepidation, with the comic doing little to build on the paper-thin characters and plots used in most games. Resident Evil, on the other hand, is genuinely intriguing—although it’s hard to say whether that’s because the game itself is a richer source of material, or the adaptation is done to a higher-than-average standard.

The basic premise of the game is that genetic researchers, ostensibly working on a cure for cancer, were instead working on a biological “super soldier” agent. This “T-Virus” gives those affected increased strength and aggression, but at the same time causes their minds and bodies to decay, turning them into bloodthirsty zombies. The early animal experiments were sabotaged, deliberately exposing the researchers themselves to the virus. Now, it’s broken loose in a city, leaving the police with a hopeless quest to contain the disease—and zombies!
