Stories about a young boy bonding with a special pet are a staple in juvenile fiction. It’s a boy and his dog, a boy and his horse, a boy and his dolphin, a boy and his sentient, living, breathing, high performance engine…!?

When a young boy who feels a need for speed explored an old ghost town that was exposed when a lake was drained, he discovered a mythic creature that is an eerie amalgam of animal and engine. His newfound friend enables the boy to retaliate against the rich spoiled bullies who delight in intimidation. But these thugs are not ones to accept a lesson in humility.

Although there are some similarities to the movie, “E.T. The Extraterrestrial,” Sam Kieth (Maxx) weaves a poignant coming-of-age story using a setting the hotrod-minded will appreciate.
